Ever wake up feeling overwhelmed before the day even starts? You know, when your mental to-do list is already 20 items long, and you haven’t even had your first cup of coffee? Oh, believe me, I get it. We all do. We’re trying to wear all these different hats—parent, spouse, friend, business owner, employee, church member, volunteer—and that’s just naming a few.
The Ultimate Life Changer: A Chat with Jesus
But before we dive into the nitty-gritty of it all, let’s talk about the real game-changer: Jesus. For me, starting my day off with a moment of prayer or reading my Bible, listening to some worship music… makes all the difference. It’s like setting my internal GPS. I know where I’m headed and what I should focus on. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go; you might be surprised at how a few minutes with God can bring clarity to your whole day.
The 24-Hour Dilemma
Alright, here’s the thing: We all have the same 24 hours. Gary V, your neighbor Bob, and yes, even you. So, it’s not about ‘finding’ time but about ‘making’ time for what truly matters.
Your Day, Your Choices
Here’s my little morning ritual: I start my day with a good workout – thank you Crossfit! I come home get a shower, and get dressed for the day. I then make myself a drink, sometimes coffee, sometimes a soda – just something with some caffeine and open my Bible. I pray and ask God to show me exactly what I need for the day. After my time with the Lord, I then spend a few minutes and jot down what I want to tackle for the day. Simple, right? The trick is to not only focus on the urgent stuff like deadlines and errands but also to include the important, less urgent stuff—time with family, personal development, exercise, and so on.
Getting Pulled in Every Direction
Let’s be real, the world is always going to want a piece of you. There’s always another email to answer, another errand to run, another fire to put out. But if you don’t decide ahead of time what your priorities are, life will decide them for you—and trust me, life doesn’t always make the best choices for us.
It’s Not Set in Stone
The beauty of it is that your priorities can change. If something isn’t working for you, switch it up! Experiment a little. See what fits and what doesn’t. Just like any habit, it’ll take some time to stick, so go easy on yourself. No one’s expecting you to be a pro at this from day one.
